Living A Balanced Life

In my coaching I have found that one area where people struggle in life is living a balanced life. It is the challenge of understanding that while many things are important, you cannot allow yourself to get too involved in one area. This area could be work, your kids, serving in the church, or many other things that demand your time. It is not that any of these things are bad, you just shouldn’t allow any one aspect to monopolize your time.

The question to ask is: How can I be balanced in my life? Let me give you a couple suggestions. First, outline for yourself what is important. List all the different areas that are important for you and that need your time. Second, understand that being balanced doesn’t mean that each area will have equal time. Your work and sleep will often require more hours than other things you desire and need to do.

Once you have made this outline, look over the list to see where the imbalance is and what changes need to be made. Make sure you include time for rest and relaxation for yourself. Having a visible list will help you to identify what is lacking in your schedule and lead you to start to make the appropriate changes. Having someone in your life (like a life coach) who helps to guide you and keep you accountable is also important. If you try to do it alone you can get sidetracked or lose the desire. Living a balanced life is imperative for all people so that you will experience joy in life and maintain the energy to do all the important tasks well.
